Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in the Ayili River area on the south slope of Kuokeshale Mt., the South Tianshan Mts., Xinjiang.It was named by Zeng Cailin in 1959, and formally cited in Regional Stratigraphical Scale of Xinjiang in 1981.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone. Dominated by limestone, clastic limestone, crystalline limestone and organic limestone with minor thin-bedded sandstone, siltstone and shale, in unconformable contact with both the overlying and underlying strata, containing rich fusulinids and unstable bauxite interbeds, about 700 m thick. In the Kuokeshaleling subprovince, it consists of thick-bedded massive limestone intercalated with bauxite or bauxitic shale. 150−200 m thick. The Haliketao subzone is dominated by limestone intercalated with minor clastic rocks, 825−1196 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unconformable with the underlying Yeyungou Fm
Upper contact
Unconformable with the overlying stratum of Kalazhierjin Fm
Regional extent
Distributed in the middle and western parts of the South Tianshan Mts., i.e. the area from Halik Mt. to Maidantawu.

Fossils
Fusulinids Fusulina, Profusulina, Pseudostaffella sp., Protriticites sp. and Schubertella sp.; Brachiopods Choristites sp., Neospirifer sp., Dictyoclostus sp. and Martinia sp.; corals, etc. Haliketao subzone contains Fusulinids: Fusulinella sp. and Profusulinella sp.; as well as brachiopods, cephalopods, gastropods, bivalves, etc.

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as a normal neritic facies intercalated with evaporite facies.
